A Class
In the standing position, competitors may punch, kick, knee and elbow to all legal areas (see fouls below).
When one or both competitors are "grounded" (three or more points of contact with the ground) punches to the head are permitted, but knees and elbows are only allowed to the body.
B Class
In the standing position, competitors may punch and kick to all legal targets. No elbows are allowed and only knees to the body are permitted.
When one or both competitors are "grounded" - as for A Class.
C Class
In the standing position - as for B Class.
When one or both competitors are "grounded" punches, elbows and knees to the body are permitted, but no strikes to the head are allowed.
D Class
As for C Class but heavier gloves and shinguards are mandatory.
Fouls (all classes):
- Butting with the head.
- Eye gouging of any kind
- Biting.
- Hair pulling.
- Fish-hooking.
- Groin attacks of any kind.
- Putting a finger into any orifice or into any cut or laceration of an opponent
- Small joint manipulation. Control of a minimum of 4 digits is required.
- Striking to the spine or the back of the head.
- Striking downward with the elbow.
- Striking the head of a downed opponent using the elbow.
- Throat strikes of any kind, including, without limitation, grabbing the trachea.
- Clawing, pinching or twisting the flesh.
- Grabbing the clavicle.
- Kicking the head of a grounded opponent.
- Kneeing the head of a grounded opponent.
- Stomping a grounded opponent.
- Kicking to the kidney with the heel.
- Spiking an opponent to the canvas on his head or neck.
- Throwing an opponent out of the fenced area.
- Holding the shorts or gloves of an opponent.
- Spitting at an opponent.
- Engaging in any unsportsman like conduct.
- Holding the fence.
- Using abusive language in the ring or fenced area.
- Attacking an opponent on or during the break.
- Attacking an opponent who is under the care of the referee.
- Attacking an opponent after the bell has sounded the end of the period of combat.
- Flagrantly disregarding the instructions of the referee.
- Timidity, including, without limitation, avoiding contact with an opponent.
- Intentionally or consistently dropping the mouthpiece or faking an injury.
- Interference by the corner men or coaches.
